Kurv Studious - SILO II – Modeling a head

alt
This Video carries on from the `Get into SILO` video allowing the artist to starting putting new modeling skills to good use. Glen takes us from concept stage in Photoshop right through to the final high resolution model.

In this video Glen uses several different styles of modeling to create a Trolls head including box-modeling the basic skull shape, creating patches of polygons by extruding edges and putting the whole model together using background reference.

The video is littered with hints and tips that all Sub-division modelers will benefit from not just SILO enthusiasts.

Top Quality Help for the Swift and the Slow

The VTC Training CD by Michael Hurwicz for Swift 3D is terrific. The information is systematically and carefully presented. Hurwicz moves at a good pace, clearly showing and explaining each action he takes. The interface fills the screen as we are guided through each of the components. Some video instruction can be very muddled but this is a superior product in several ways, including good audio quality. This can be a terrific alternative for visual learners, or an addition to reading manuals (I have found few books that even address this program). I found it really helps to have the Swift 3D program open-- hit pause on the instruction-- and actually practice each step as or after you see it; it makes actual skill training (not just the theory half) surprisingly easy. I am very satisfied with this purchase and gladly recommend it.
Be Well,
dr ron

Multimedia and Virtual Reality - Designing Usable Multisensory User Interfaces

This book is about the design of advanced user interfaces. Three themes are explored: First, a theory-based approach to user interface design that surveys the cognitive psychology background of human-computer interaction, and then introduces design models for applying psychological knowledge. These models expand on Norman's gulfs of interaction framework. The second theme is multimedia interface design: models, principles and a design process for multimedia presentation and dialogue. Cognitive psychology is woven into the design guidelines as a basis for attracting user's attention, matching media to the message and preventing information overloading. The multimedia section also reviews the aesthetics of design and extracts basic principles for designing attractive and engaging user interfaces." "The third theme, virtual reality, is introduced using the same approach whereby theory motivates the design method. Guidelines cover the design of user presence, social agents, virtual environments, and user support. Evaluation methods and techniques for multisensory interfaces form a separate chapter that introduces new variations on the heuristic evaluation theme while also describing additional methods containing more precise diagnostic guidance for evaluation." The final chapter surveys multisensory design issues in ubiquitous computing and anticipates the future development of interactive technology.

3D Videocommunication

The migration of immersive media towards telecommunication applications continues to advance. Impressive progress in the field of media compression, media representation, and the larger and ever-increasing bandwidth available to the customer, will foster the introduction of these services in the future. It is widely accepted that this trend towards immersive media is going to have a strong impact on our daily life.
The ability to evoke a state of ‘being there’ and/or of ‘being immersed’ into media applications will no longer remain the domain of the flight simulators, CAVE systems, cyberspace applications, theme parks or IMAX theatres. It will arise in offices, venues and homes and it has the potential to enhance quality of life in general.
